Woodland Hills is City of Los Angeles jurisdiction, which means LADBS permitting rather than Ventura County. If you have remodeled elsewhere in the region, expect a different process and a different timeline. We work on both sides of the county line and plan for LA’s requirements from day one rather than discovering them at plan check.

Woodland Hills spans a wide range — condominiums and townhomes concentrated around Warner Center, established single-family neighbourhoods across the flats, and larger estate properties in the hills south of Ventura Boulevard. The work each needs is quite different.
In the flats, much of the stock is post-war single-family housing with the same limitations as any tract from that era: a closed kitchen, one or two bathrooms, and a floor plan built for how people lived in 1958. Opening up the kitchen and adding a bathroom is consistently the highest-return work.
In the hills, projects are more often about capitalising on what the property already has — view-oriented additions, primary suite expansions, outdoor living built into slope.
This is a genuine technical difference from our coastal work, not a talking point. Summer temperatures in the west Valley regularly run twenty degrees above Oxnard on the same afternoon. That affects insulation choices, window specification, HVAC sizing for any added square footage, and whether an outdoor living space needs shade to be usable at all. An addition specified for a coastal climate will underperform badly here.
Los Angeles has been one of the more active ADU markets in the state, and the west Valley’s lot sizes suit detached units well. State-level rules apply throughout California — four-foot maximum side and rear setbacks, no owner-occupancy requirement for standard ADUs, ministerial approval within 60 days of a complete application — while the submission itself goes through LADBS.
