Oxnard Remodeling Contractor — Kitchens, Bathrooms, Additions & ADUs

Remodeling in Oxnard is not the same job as remodeling inland. Salt air is hard on fixtures and finishes, a good part of the city sits inside California’s Coastal Zone, and a project a few blocks from the beach can follow a completely different permitting path than the identical project in RiverPark. We have been building in Ventura County for over 25 years and our office is fifteen minutes up the road in Santa Paula, so Oxnard is not a service area we drive to occasionally — it is home ground.

What the Coastal Zone means for your Oxnard project

If your home is in Silver Strand, Oxnard Shores, Hollywood Beach or Mandalay Bay, there is a reasonable chance it falls inside the Coastal Zone. When it does, your project may need a Coastal Development Permit on top of the standard building permit, and that typically adds several weeks and additional fees to the timeline. It does not usually apply to a straightforward interior remodel, but it very often does apply once you add square footage, build detached, or change the height or footprint of the house.
The thing that costs Oxnard homeowners money is finding this out late. We check jurisdiction before design work starts, so the plan we draw is the plan that gets approved, rather than one that gets sent back for revisions after you have already paid for it.

Oxnard homes we work on

Oxnard is really several housing markets at once, and each brings its own remodeling considerations:

  • Silver Strand and the beach neighbourhoods — a mix of 1970s Cape Cods and older beach properties, where the recurring issues are moisture, corroded fixtures, and layouts that were never designed around the view. Marine-grade hardware and proper ventilation are not upgrades here, they are basic requirements.
  • River Ridge and RiverPark — newer construction where the work is usually about updating a builder-grade kitchen or bath to something that matches what the house is now worth, rather than solving structural problems.
  • Central and south Oxnard — established mid-century single-family homes with closed-off kitchens. This is where the highest-value work tends to be: opening up a wall between kitchen and living space transforms how the whole house feels.

ADUs in Oxnard

Oxnard permits detached ADUs up to 1,200 square feet, which is among the more generous limits anywhere in Ventura County. State law requires cities to process a complete ADU application within 60 days, and impact fees are waived entirely for units under 750 square feet. Coastal Zone properties should expect additional review time.

For a lot of Oxnard homeowners this is the single best use of their property — housing for family, or rental income in a market where rents are high and land is scarce.
