Interior Remodeling

Interior remodeling covers the rooms between the kitchen and the bathrooms: living and family rooms, bedrooms, hallways, entries and offices. These projects tend to be less about plumbing and more about how the house feels: flooring that runs through without transitions, doors and trim that match, lighting that makes rooms usable at night, and spaces that do what you need them to do.

Doing interior work as one project instead of room by room lets the finishes match and the trades work in order. Flooring goes down after drywall and paint, but before baseboards. Recessed lighting goes in before the ceiling is patched and painted. Planned together, the house is disrupted once instead of several times.

Floors, doors and trim

Continuous flooring is one of the biggest visual upgrades in a house. Waterproof vinyl plank, porcelain wood-look tile and engineered hardwood are the most common choices we install, and each handles Ventura County conditions differently. Tile suits slab homes and holds up to pets and sand from the beach; engineered wood brings warmth; vinyl plank is quiet and forgiving.

Replacing hollow interior doors with solid-core doors makes the house quieter. New baseboards, casing and door hardware tie the rooms together. Arched openings like the one in our gallery give a hallway character without a structural change.

Rooms that do new jobs

Houses change use faster than they change shape. A spare bedroom becomes an office, a formal dining room becomes a family room, a garage-adjacent room becomes a gym. One client had an extra room turned into an office as part of a larger remodel. These conversions often need more outlets, better lighting, a door, a closet removed or a wall added.

  • Home offices

Dedicated circuits, data wiring, task lighting, built-in desks and a door that closes.

  • Built-ins

Bookcases, window seats, entertainment walls and mudroom benches built to the room.

  • Closets

Walk-in closets carved from adjacent space, with lighting and organizers.

Lighting and electrical

Many older homes have one ceiling fixture per room, or none, with lamps plugged into the few outlets available. Recessed lighting, dimmers and additional outlets make rooms usable. California's energy code requires high-efficacy lighting in remodeled spaces, and LED fixtures meet that easily. If the electrical panel is near capacity, we plan an upgrade into the project.

Interior Remodeling: FAQs

What flooring works best in a Ventura County slab home?

Porcelain tile and waterproof vinyl plank both do well on concrete slabs, which can have some moisture. Engineered hardwood also works with the right underlayment. Solid hardwood is less suited to slabs. We test the slab and talk through your household, pets and style before you choose.

Can I stay in the house during an interior remodel?

Usually, by working through the house in phases. Flooring is the hardest part, since furniture has to move and some rooms are off-limits while it goes down. We plan the order so you always have a bedroom and a way through the house.

Do interior remodels need permits?

Painting, flooring and trim usually do not. Adding circuits, recessed lighting, moving walls or changing doors in fire-rated walls usually do. Most interior remodels include at least some electrical work, so a permit is common. We tell you what your scope needs and pull it.

Should I paint before or after new floors?

Paint first, then floors, then baseboards and a final touch-up. That way the new floor is not covered in drips and the baseboards get a clean final coat. We schedule the trades in that order on every interior project.
