Bathroom Remodels for Piru homes

Older Piru homes often have one small bathroom with original fixtures and plumbing that is past its life. Remodels there usually go down to the studs, replace the supply lines and drains, and rebuild the shower with proper waterproofing.

Adding a bathroom on a property with septic adds load to the system, and County Environmental Health may need to review it if a bedroom is added too. Permits come from the County of Ventura.

This page covers Piru specifically. For materials, process and costs in general, see our bathroom remodeling page, and for permits and neighborhoods, our Piru service area page.

Planning a bathroom remodel in Piru

Many Piru homes have one older bathroom. We plan to keep it out of service as briefly as possible by ordering everything before demolition, and we check the floor and plumbing for hidden damage first.

The County of Ventura issues the permit. Adding a second bathroom on a septic property may need Environmental Health review.

We build showers on a waterproofed, flood-tested pan and duct the fan outside, as code requires.

Older Piru bathrooms often hide damage under the floor. A toilet that rocks, a soft spot by the tub or tile that has cracked along a line can all point to a subfloor that has been wet for years. We check from the crawlspace where the house has one, and from inside where it does not, and we price repairs before demolition starts.

Homes on wells can have mineral-heavy water that clouds glass and wears out valves quickly. A water test tells you what is in it, and the right filter or softener protects the new fixtures. We leave space and plumbing connections for the equipment so it can be added during the remodel or later.

Bathroom Remodels in Piru: FAQs

Who permits Piru bathroom remodels?

The County of Ventura.

Can I add a bathroom to my Piru home on septic?

Usually, with attention to septic capacity; added bedrooms may trigger Environmental Health review.

What if my Piru bathroom floor is soft?

We replace damaged subfloor and repair framing before tiling.

How long will a Piru bathroom remodel take?

Typically one to two weeks of construction, plus glass.

Can a Piru bathroom be made accessible during a remodel?

Yes. A low or curbless shower, a bench, grab-bar blocking and a comfort-height toilet can be included. Raised floors often allow a curbless shower more easily than slabs.

Should I test my Piru well water before remodeling my bathroom?

It is a good idea. The test shows minerals and other contents that affect fixtures, glass and the water heater. With the results, you can choose treatment that protects the new bathroom. Many labs in the county test well water.
