Bathroom Remodeling in Ventura, CA
Walk-in showers, tub conversions, tile and accessible bathrooms for Ventura homes, from Midtown and the Westside to East Ventura and the beach.
Bathroom Remodels for Ventura homes
Ventura has a lot of single-bathroom houses. In Midtown and the Westside, many homes from the early 1900s were built with one small bathroom, sometimes with original tile and a clawfoot or alcove tub. Remodeling the only bathroom takes careful scheduling, and adding a second one is a common next project.
Newer neighborhoods in East Ventura have two-bathroom homes with fiberglass tub surrounds and small vanities ready for walk-in showers and better storage. Near Pierpont and the Keys, coastal moisture makes ventilation a priority. Wherever the house is, we handle the City of Ventura permit.
This page covers Ventura specifically. For materials, process and costs in general, see our bathroom remodeling page, and for permits and neighborhoods, our Ventura service area page.

Common bathroom remodel issues in Ventura
One-bathroom houses
Older Ventura homes often have one bathroom, so downtime has to be planned carefully.
Original tile and old drains
Early 1900s bathrooms may have tile set in mortar and old cast iron or galvanized lines underneath.
Coastal moisture
Beach-area bathrooms need fans ducted outside with humidity control.
Rot at the toilet and tub
Old leaks soften subfloors, visible from the crawlspace in raised houses.
How we approach it
Minimize downtime
Materials ordered before demolition and a temporary toilet where possible.
Inspect underneath
Crawlspace checks in raised houses to see the subfloor and drains.
Fit the era
Subway tile, hex floors and simple fixtures for older homes; larger tile for newer ones.
Planning a bathroom remodel in Ventura
Ventura bathroom remodels often look different on each side of town. In Midtown and downtown homes, the bathroom is small and may have original tile, a cast iron tub and galvanized pipes. In East Ventura tract homes, the hall bathroom has a fiberglass tub-shower and a cultured marble vanity, and the primary bathroom is a small room with a stall shower.
Near the coast, the marine layer keeps bathrooms damp, so ventilation matters. A fan ducted outside with humidity control and a window that opens help keep mildew down. Homes built before 1994 need water-conserving fixtures to pass the final inspection.
We build every shower on a waterproofed, sloped pan and flood test it before tile. In raised-floor homes, we inspect the framing from the crawlspace, since old leaks are common around toilets and tubs.
The City of Ventura issues the permit. In a one-bathroom home, we plan the schedule so the toilet is back in service as quickly as possible.

Bathroom Remodels in Ventura: FAQs
How long will my only bathroom be out of service?
For a straightforward remodel, typically one to two weeks of construction, sometimes longer if rot repair or plumbing changes are needed. We order everything before demolition and can sometimes keep a toilet working. We give you a day-by-day plan for the hardest days.
Can a clawfoot tub stay in a remodeled Ventura bathroom?
Often, yes. Original clawfoot tubs can be refinished and reinstalled with new supply lines and a new drain. Some owners move them to a different spot or keep them as a feature alongside a new shower. We check the condition and the floor framing.
Do Ventura bathroom remodels need a permit?
If plumbing moves, circuits are added or the fan changes, yes, from the City of Ventura. Like-for-like fixture swaps may not. Homes built before 1994 need water-conserving fixtures for final approval of a permitted remodel.
What bathroom upgrades do East Ventura homeowners ask for most?
Converting fiberglass tub-showers to tiled walk-in showers, double vanities, better lighting and quieter, stronger exhaust fans. Many also add grab-bar blocking for the future.
Should I replace the galvanized pipes during a Ventura bathroom remodel?
If the walls are open, it is the best time. Galvanized pipes corrode from the inside and reduce water pressure, and they often fail at the fittings. Replacing them during the remodel costs much less than opening finished tile later.
