Concrete Contractor in Ventura, CA
Driveways, patios, steps, retaining walls and foundations across Ventura, from flat east-side lots to hillside properties above the city.
Concrete for Ventura homes
Ventura concrete work splits between the flats and the hills. On flat lots in East Ventura and Midtown, the work is driveways, patios and walks, where base preparation and drainage decide how long the slab lasts. In the hillside neighborhoods, retaining walls, stepped footings and drainage dominate, often with engineering.
We pour Ventura concrete under our C-8 Concrete license and coordinate city encroachment permits for driveway approaches and building permits for walls and foundations.
This page covers Ventura specifically. For materials, process and costs in general, see our concrete work page, and for permits and neighborhoods, our Ventura service area page.

Planning concrete work in Ventura
In Midtown and older parts of Ventura, the most common concrete call is a driveway or walk lifted by tree roots. Replacing it starts with removing the damaged sections, then deciding what to do about the roots. Cutting a large root can harm or destabilize the tree, so we talk through the options, which may include a root barrier, a reroute of the walk or a thicker reinforced slab.
In East Ventura and newer neighborhoods, driveway and patio replacements are more straightforward, and decorative finishes like stamped or colored concrete are popular for back yards. Hillside lots need retaining walls, drainage and, for rebuilt homes, foundations poured to engineered plans.
Near the coast, salt can reach the reinforcing steel and cause it to rust and crack the concrete from inside. Proper concrete cover over the steel and a dense mix help a slab or wall last.
Retaining walls above a certain height or supporting a slope need engineering and a City of Ventura permit. Driveway approaches that touch the street may need an encroachment permit.

Concrete in Ventura: FAQs
Do Ventura retaining walls need a permit?
Walls over 4 feet measured from the bottom of the footing, or walls supporting a slope, driveway or structure, generally need a permit and engineering. The City of Ventura reviews them. We check your wall's height and loads before building.
How do you replace a driveway in Midtown Ventura with tree roots?
We remove the old concrete, cut roots where it is safe for the tree, sometimes add root barriers, then compact the base and pour. For street trees, city rules may apply to root cutting.
Can you pour foundations on Ventura hillside lots?
Yes. Hillside foundations use stepped footings and sometimes piers, designed by an engineer, often with a soils report. We pour them under our C-8 license and coordinate inspections.
What concrete finish works best for a Ventura patio?
Broom finish is practical and slip-resistant; colored or stained concrete warms it up; stamped concrete mimics stone. Near the beach, sealers help protect against salt.
How do you keep tree roots from cracking a new Ventura driveway?
A root barrier along the edge of the driveway can direct roots downward and away from the slab. A thicker, reinforced slab resists lifting better. Cutting large roots can hurt the tree, so we discuss the tradeoffs with you before we decide.
