Kitchen Remodeling in Camarillo, CA
New kitchens for Camarillo's 1960s through 1980s homes, from Mission Oaks and Pleasant Valley to Leisure Village, with association and city approvals handled.
Kitchen Remodels for Camarillo homes
Most Camarillo homes were built between the 1960s and the 1980s, and their kitchens show it: closed galley or U-shaped layouts, oak or laminate cabinets, tile or laminate counters and fluorescent light boxes in the ceiling. The houses themselves are usually sound, on slabs with decent framing, so most of a Camarillo kitchen budget goes into layout, cabinets, counters and lighting rather than repairs.
Two local details shape the plan. Many Camarillo neighborhoods have associations, and while kitchen interiors rarely need their approval, work rules about hours, parking and dumpsters often apply. And since July 2025, City of Camarillo permits are applied for online through its OpenGov system, which we handle for you.
This page covers Camarillo specifically. For materials, process and costs in general, see our kitchen remodeling page, and for permits and neighborhoods, our Camarillo service area page.

Common kitchen remodel issues in Camarillo
Fluorescent light boxes
Many 1970s Camarillo kitchens have recessed fluorescent ceiling boxes. Replacing them with LED recessed lighting means repairing the ceiling and rewiring.
Closed layouts
The wall between the kitchen and family room often carries ceiling joists and needs a beam to remove.
Slab plumbing
Moving the sink to an island means cutting the slab for a drain, which we plan and price separately.
Association work rules
HOAs may limit work hours and dumpster placement, which affects scheduling.

Planning a kitchen remodel in Camarillo
Camarillo kitchens fall into a few familiar types. Mission Oaks and Pleasant Valley tract homes from the 1960s and 1970s often have a closed kitchen beside a family room, and opening that wall is the most common request. Newer homes from the 1990s onward usually have the right layout already and need cabinets, counters, lighting and appliances. Leisure Village homes, built between 1973 and 1984, call for kitchens that are easy to reach and easy to clean.
Since July 2025, the City of Camarillo takes permit applications online, with plan review handled by its contracted building services. We submit the drawings, track the review and schedule inspections, so the process stays off your plate.
Most Camarillo neighborhoods have an association, and Leisure Village has its own rules for contractors, work hours and parking inside the gates. We ask for those rules before the estimate so the price and schedule account for them.
Camarillo is 22 to 40 minutes from our Santa Paula office. We order cabinets and counters before demolition, so the kitchen is out of service only while the actual installation is happening.

Kitchen Remodels in Camarillo: FAQs
What does a typical Camarillo kitchen remodel include?
Usually removing or opening a wall to the family room, new cabinets and counters, replacing fluorescent ceiling boxes with LED recessed lights, new flooring and appliances. Because most Camarillo homes are structurally sound, less of the budget goes to hidden repairs.
How do I get a kitchen permit in Camarillo now?
Since July 2025, the City of Camarillo takes permit applications online through OpenGov. We prepare the drawings, submit them, answer plan check comments and schedule inspections.
Do I need HOA approval for a Camarillo kitchen remodel?
Interior remodels usually do not need architectural approval, but many associations have rules about construction hours, parking and dumpsters. If your remodel changes the exterior, like a new window, approval is typically required. We review the rules with you.
Can a Leisure Village kitchen be remodeled for easier use?
Yes. Features like pull-out shelves, drawers instead of low cabinets, counter-height microwaves and good task lighting make kitchens easier for owners who want to stay long term. We follow the community's rules for contractor access.
How do I make a Camarillo kitchen easier to use as I get older?
Drawers instead of deep base cabinets, pull-down shelves in uppers, a wall oven at a comfortable height, lever faucets and good task lighting all help. A slightly wider aisle makes room for a walker or wheelchair. We plan these details with you during design.
